In the centre of our neighbouring village was a roundabout which was called The Square. Then they got rid of the roundabout and erected a state-of-the-art set of traffic lights. It was a first for road traffic management in West Offaly but still causes consternation locally. Some view it as a lethargic system, frustratingly slow to change red to green. Others are delighted to take the time at the lights to reflect, perhaps read a book or meditate for ten minutes.   'Here the lights are always red And you’ve got time To clear your head If you’re losing the will to fight Get to the Cloghan traffic lights.'
